Morning Reflection Theme
Listening for God’s Voice
Reverend Glenda Hope
We are excited to have Rev. Glenda Hope as our presenter at our morning reflection on the theme. She led the San Francisco Network Ministries along with her late husband Scott for 40 years. In 1989, she protested on behalf of the homeless. In partnership with the Sisters of the Presentation, she created, SafeHouse, the residential treatment program for women leaving prostitution. Her organization also built low-income housing for families and established a computer lab, now run by St. Anthony’s Foundation. She is known on the streets for the hundreds of memorial services she has conducted for the homeless who have died. In 2001, the Dalai Lama honored her as a hero of compassion.
St. Anthony’s Foundation Executive Director Barry Stenger said, “Glenda is the best of the religious traditions; she’s a prophet, she’s a pastor. A very compassionate pastor.”
Quoted in an ABC interview at the time of her retirement she said, “I think it’s a challenge to churches, and synagogues, and mosques and temples to come outside of their building and walk the streets.”
So you can see we are in for a very meaningful morning! Be sure to make plans to be there.
