With deep sadness, we, the Board of Directors of Presentation Center, announce to you our decision to close Presentation Center on June 30, 2017. This decision has been reached after consultation with advisors and other significant persons, consideration of various options, and earnest prayer to the Holy Spirit.
Presentation Center, a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of the Presentation, has been blessed for more than sixty years by so many loyal supporters including donors, staff, volunteers, sisters, and of course, their current employees who have believed in this ministry and have been true to its mission. In the beautiful surroundings of Presentation Center, thousands of guests have been welcomed and experienced God’s presence and renewal through the hospitality extended by the staff, the quiet nurturing of their bodies and souls afforded by the natural setting, and enriching experience of new relationships.
Over the past several years, however, Presentation Center has struggled to maintain fiscal stability while simultaneously honoring its mission to provide a place for affordable opportunities for prayer, respite, and spiritual renewal for individual guests and many groups from Catholic schools and other non-profit entities. Despite the concerted efforts of the Board of Directors, the Board of Trustees, and the dedicated staff, the Center has operated with deficit budgets for a number of years. Several factors contributed to this trend of annual deficits—fewer sisters available for full-time ministry at the Center; rising operational expenses; and, substantial improvements required to maintain a safe and attractive infrastructure. In combination, these major stumbling blocks have made it untenable to keep Presentation Center viable as a Catholic spirituality center.
While necessary at this time in history, closing this important ministry, has not been an easy decision for us. In the future, we hope that the legacy of Presentation Center as a Catholic spirituality center in the Santa Clara Valley, will provide inspiration for others to explore, in new ways, opportunities to continue to nourish and deepen spiritual growth.
