By Kay Sweeney, Associates Program Facilitator

At its June 2019 Assembly, the Presentation Community welcomed Katherine Valenzuela Sias, Yolanda Santillan, and Patricia Diaz as new Associates. All are graduates of Our Lady of Loretto High School, Class of 1974, and active with the Loretto Friends of the Presentation Sisters. By becoming Associates, they have now forged an even closer bond with the Presentation Sisters and their charism.

The Spotlight in this issue is on Katherine (Kathey) Valenzuela Sias. She is a native of Los Angeles and attended Our Lady of Loretto High School, where she quickly found her place in the Presentation Community.

The Presentation charism “not words but deeds,” must have made an impression. She is presently employed as a full time counselor for the Division of Adult Education in Los Angeles guiding young adults through the process of obtaining their high school diploma, getting a job, and going on to higher education.

She volunteers for the Los Angeles City Chicano Association which advances the employment, education, and economic and social welfare of its members. It is clear that she follows the charism of Nano Nagle by working to make the world a better place by her actions.

When asked why she wanted to become an Associate, Kathey replied, “ For the last two years, I have been interested in developing a spiritual discipline that is built into my daily life. I would like to be a Presentation Associate because it would fulfill a personal goal to acquire knowledge, be able to communicate theology effectively, collaborate with fellow religious leaders, and gain a greater knowledge of God.”

The Sisters of the Presentation and the Associate Community welcomes you as one of its newest members.
